Our History

In 1992 a little ad appeared the local paper. It asked any person interested in the formation of a reform synagogue in the Southold area to meet. We did, exclaiming to one another, " I didn't know any other Jews out here!".  In a short time we have achieved our goals of developing quality religious, educational and cultural programs to enhance the lives of our members and the community at large. Today North Fork Reform Synagogue flourishes in the mainstream of North Fork religious, social and cultural life. We invite participation, challenging through stimulating ideas, new concepts, quiet introspection and reflection.

In 1994 we acquired a historically unique Holocaust Torah, from the Czech Memorial Scrolls Trust, in London. The Trust was responsible for rescuing the collection of 1,564 Torah Scrolls and 400 Torah Binders, part of the precious legacy of ritual objects accumulated under the Nazis during their occupation of Bohemia and Moravia. Our Torah is scroll number 627 from the town of Tabor in the Czech Republic.
